It Was A Scary Time

Daily writing prompt
When was the first time you really felt like a grown up (if ever)?

After my grandma died, my granddad needed help. I already lived with them, so I dropped out of college to get a job and help him pay bills.

I also had to learn how to do laundry, grocery shop, cook more than eggs or oatmeal and balance a checkbook and deal with checks.

Back then, I applied at this well known store to for work, but they turned me down because I didn’t have experience. And which store was this?

BLOCKBUSTER

It was a very stressful time for me because on top of dealing with that, I had to deal with dicey family members. The sheer amount of sneakiness almost made my head spin.

Ever since then… and this is close to twenty years ago, I’ve been adulting or some sort of adult something.

Now that almost everyone else is gone except my dad–and I can’t talk to him anymore?

QUIET time.

Still an adult, just in the slightly slower lane…

Cane and all.

What upset me most about my grandma dying is that granddad found her first and started yelling for me, and then I tried to do CPR on her, but she was already gone. Both of us blamed me until we found out she’d died before she even hit the floor.
