You’d Think It Was A Good Thing

Daily writing prompt
What personality trait in people raises a red flag with you?
  1. Being TOO curious. From personal experience? Being overly curious about you. I have met people who’ve said: “You can tell me anything.” I am not that interesting, so I find it a massive red flag.
  2. Unflinching at being deceptive. Full of excuses. AKA, adept at deception. I don’t like being dishonest myself, but I certainly have been to excuse away why I was late or delayed. Nowadays, when I say I’m sick, I AM SICK. That wasn’t always the case.
  3. Quick to respond. And so eager to change the original message. I hate to admit this, because it’s in my family. Being manipulative and quick to change little details of past events. This requires a very good memory of what really occurred… and the ability to keep tabs on what you’re adding in. Constantly repeating what you claim happened to someone, knowing its not accurate and dismissing their
  4. Constant need for validation. Constantly fishing for comforting words, by degrading oneself.
  5. Selfishness. Need I say more? Oh, yeah… doing or saying things with only your self-interest in mind.
  6. Braggarts. I have also experienced this in family. “I have obtained what you have, then got better than what you have.” Or my favorite: “Oh, by the way, I obtained XXXX and it cost XXXX. I just wanted to let you know.”
  7. Spiteful. I enjoy cooking and baking, however, one again… family has expressed that my food could taste better while stuffing their face. Making comments about how parts of my body aren’t the same as theirs. Apologizing, but stating that they don’t understand at all what the problem was. (AKA=Not a real apology.) Also have had my mother insulted by same person, who stated she was homely in appearance and then told me I looked just like her and then told me I looked just like them in a later conversation. I guess that middle one was an oops?
  8. Being conceited. Be it due to appearance, a difference of view, blood relations, etc. Being told that you are less.

I wonder if all of this falls under Narcissism.

Seems like it!

There are so many other reasons I avoid family. I’m not even texting any of them. I also got a deceptive voicemail recently. “Oh, I’m just calling to confirm that everything transferred over and you saw my name. Give me a call back.”

Yeah… no thanks.
