There have been so many, but my memory refuses to bring up the memory of even one…
I’m extremely blunt at times so… kinda struggling. Really struggling…
OH WAIT…
For years one of my regulars called me “young man.” Years and years. And one day, he told the guard that I was the nicest young men he’d met, talking about how I was always willing to help.
Well, the guard then told him, “She’s a woman.”
And the regular looked at me, horrified and asked how long I’d been a woman. When I explained I was born female, he was even more horrified and asked me why I never corrected him.
When he first met me, I was wearing boot-cut, tight jeans. And earrings.
When he finally realized I was a woman (because of the guard), I was wearing earrings, a necklace, lip cream and had the top of my shirt pushed back to get air. I had been doing that for a long time.
Over 7 years.
I knew this man over 7 years, and he called me “sir” for all of them.
I don’t think he ever fully recovered from the shock.

My dad asked: “How could he be confused?!”
To which I said: “How could he not?”
