What notable things happened today?

I was supposed to pick up a forever furbaby friend for my ancient cat, however the one I chose still wasn’t spayed. Why a 6 year old female cat wouldn’t have been spayed yet baffles me. She was also 20lbs and needed to lose a lot of weight. I asked the people at the shelter if they had any other cats who were at minimum 5 years old.

While we were walking through the cat place again, I spotted this black cat that looked almost the same as my ancient cat. #oldpets The difference was the brownish mane and black fur. My old girl is a tortie.

I was stuck at just how much this male cat looked like her. They told me he was stressed due to a move so he was going outside the box. And that was why the prior owners sent him to the shelter. But he was super sweet and gentle, but anxious.

He was actually on an anxiety medication… and they never put in a prescription for me. So he’s now off the meds I suppose. Oddly enough, it’s the same daily dosage of the controlled substance that I take at night. He takes the full amount, but its split in half doses, one for morning and one for night.

By my wording, yes I did choose to adopt him. He’s a bit over three years old and was a COVID pet.

… I’m not sure how I feel about that. I remember being heartbroken because a lot of people took in animals or bought them during the lockdown. As soon as they could get out and had to go back to work in person, the shelters were flooded with surrendered pets.

I read his background and just… I hope it works out here with the old girl. I’m technically his fourth place. His prior owners had moved, and he started going everywhere after that. Then he was put in a shelter and put on anti-anxiety medication. Now, he’s here and managed to successfully go in the box before his curious nature had him out of my room and encountering the old cat.

He’s extremely affectionate and also talks a lot like the old cat does. I think they’re the same breed. At current, he’s hiding from her, but I hope they start to warm up over time.

He’s not angry with me at all for the current stressor either. He… I suppose owns up to the fact that he put himself into that situation.

They did have him on some urinary support foods. I found out in his adoption paperwork… and I just… My brain went blank for a moment, because I told the staff that the reason I avoided male cats in the past was due to a fear of them having urinary blockages…

I also just spent at least $90 on cat food in three days. And now I’ve just bought some urinary food. These two cats will be receiving a mixture of the five+ different types of cat food I now unfortunately have.

Wet food will be in their diets, along with plenty of water.

So… hopefully back up to two cats again. This time, the male cat is much smaller and his personality is so endearing, so will see how it goes.

Oh! I met with some friends on Zoom and was dozing off to CatTV. He was hiding in my closet before venturing out and climbed over me and rubbed against me. I would call it “rough” head butts. He really wanted me to acknowledge he was there. He head butt and nuzzled me.

And I just… melted.

And began to clean fur off my chest and stomach. I need to get him to the groomer, because just like the old girl… he is a long hair.

I should also resume the search for the brush that one of my cats hid a while ago. I refuse to have 10,000 mats to deal with between them.
