Yes

Daily writing prompt
Do you practice religion?

I do, yes. Years ago, I was raised Catholic, but became disillusioned because of how the priests behaved and what they did. I didn’t like the hypocrisy.

I didn’t like how everything was so monotonous either.

Yet… after taking a different look at the Bible itself, I’ve found that there’s so much good advice to be had inside of it. It really is a guide for our lives, and the author of the Bible gave us a wonderful gift.

God wasn’t told to give us the Bible, he did it because he wanted to. There are Biblical examples of what happens when one obeys and when one disobeys him. His instructions are the only ones I’ve found to be reliable.

To keep myself out of trouble and be mindful of where I am.

Proverbs 22:3 – “The shrewd one sees the danger and conceals himself, but the inexperienced keep right on going and suffer the consequences.”

How to properly treat other people.

Matthew 7:12 – “All things, therefore, that you want men to do to you, you also must do to them.” Also known as the Golden Rule.

Why do bad things happen to good people?

Ecclesiastes 9:11 – “I have seen something further under the sun, that the swift do not always win the race, nor do the mighty win the battle, nor do the wise always have the food, nor do the intelligent always have the riches, nor do those with knowledge always have success, because time and unexpected events overtake them all.”

What happens to our dead loved ones? I was raised to believe in purgatory.

Ecclesiastes 9:10 – “Whatever your hand finds to do, do with all your might, for there is no work nor planning nor knowledge nor wisdom in the Grave, where you are going.”

Don’t be dumb and get obsessed with stuff.

Luke 12:15 – “Then he said to them: “Keep your eyes open and guard against every sort of greed, because even when a person has an abundance, his life does not result from the things he possesses.””

Don’t make decisions based on what your heart tells you to do.

Jeremiah 17:9 – “The heart is more treacherous than anything else and is desperate. Who can know it?”

Can I direct myself in right and wrong?

Isaiah 48:17 – “I am your God, The One teaching you to benefit yourself, The One guiding you in the way you should walk.”

There is a lot more than that to be found in the Bible. Some people think it’s antiquated, but it still remains as the world’s most printed book and many have found their lives changed in ways they never expected… by living by Bible principle.

~J. Lyst

While I experience problems in life and get frustrated… I certainly have motivation to get up every day.

And even when I’ve wanted to up and die… I still am reminded of just how valuable my life is when I read the Bible.
