I Do Mean To Brag

Daily writing prompt
What are you good at?

Honestly, I don’t. I have several things that I am good at, so I’m not sure which ones to mention.

Maybe a few.

I’m good at singing. I played percussion for years, and I’m a classically trained pianist.

I’m good at writing and slowly working on bettering myself at editing.

I’m good in the kitchen and absolutely love trying out new recipes.

As long as it doesn’t involve blood or intestines. 🤢

Now… the bad side of this.

It can be difficult to vocally adjust to new songs. I was never warned to wear protection for my ears when playing percussion. I can play, yes, but I find it immensely difficult to read sheet music so it takes longer than it should for me to practice. I am potentially dyslexic, so that might be why I keep twisting up which note is where. I wrote on the sheet music which note was which — never to be seen by an audience as I acquired unmarked sheets for performances.

I love to write, but I spend hours upon hours working on chapters. I constantly second-guess and question myself. My edits do not work out well at times because I keep speeding through so as to not take 10,000 years to be done and ready for uploading (if is fanfic).

I have burned my hands I don’t know how many times. I once caught a pan after I lost the grip on my potholders.

… Literally without fingerprints for a few weeks… with 8 out of ten damaged.

I have also overcooked before and even got sick once because I didn’t know fresh pasta was to be frozen the first day.

Sometimes the meals are downright gross.

The longer the ingredient list, the less likely I am to genuinely want to try a new recipe.

But sometimes…

    1. I have a lot of interests, and used to run myself ragged. There are only so many hours in a day.

    1. About 20 years ago, I was super into pastels. I also tried acrylic painting on canvas, but hated it. I recently obtained watercolor supplies and want to test them out.

I love drawing and some of what I do involves me using charcoal. I have a mixture of pencils in differing ranges of hard or softness.

I also sometimes use crayons to color.

I try to take my flagging energy reserves into consideration now, along with pain in my upper limbs. I just do not have the reserves that I used to.

I need to find someone to go to the park with me so I can take some snaps too. There are so many pretty things out there, and I want to capture images of them all.

      2. Unfortunately, plants have a tendency to die under my care. 🙁 Sad to say. I’ve tried several times to grow plants or even nurture them and they all seemed to just give up.

I know the miracle grow soil I had for my peppers had fungus gnats.

One of my plants had root rot. I wanted to cry, because it had been doing so well. 🙁 I had two “foliage” plants. They died one after the other.
