Got some decent rest in today… thank goodness for that.
Tonight, I’ll resume tackling my bedroom. If I’m able, I’d love to do some dusting and vacuuming. However… it all depends on how my spine is doing.
I also have fantastic news!
I’m on page 12 in Chapter 24 of Navigating the Curve!
I always worry that I won’t have any “juice” as it was… when it comes to penning out new chapters.
How do writers keep going?
I wonder still.
Do I see myself as a writer? Yes. However, sort of an on again off again deal.
My father asked me if I’d ever be published. I actually am published. Have been since 2013, but just unpublished the novel because of how bad the content was.
It was described as a dystopian world. Got 3 stars in the kindle store.
I agree. That’s what it was.
However, for me to ever decide to publish a novel ever again, I’ll need to check for misspellings, poor grammar. Mistakes and etc etc.
There were so many problems with that novel that to correct them, I would have needed to release a brand-new incarnation of it. And at the end of the day, I decided that was way too much work.
For years, I was drawn to Stephen King novels like a bee to honey. It was the same when I was a kid with RL Stein books.
I’ve always—or so it seems—been drawn to mystery, intrigue… horror.
Romance too though.
Hence my current run through fanfictions.
One of my readers suggested the YT page of a particular writer to get ideas as to how to go about writing something people will read.
I’ll state here that while I’m interested, I don’t think I have enough of an attention span to watch the man’s videos. Though the thumbnails look very interesting.
My foray into this particular fandom was primarily for myself. I couldn’t find anything that looked remotely like what I wanted. I just want soft, plush fluff. I don’t like to see excessive bouts of violence or excessive bouts of sex either.
I noticed in a lot of fandoms, the stories don’t have warnings. That’s not saying all of them are like that, but certain ones. So I find myself jumping through liking the story and then bam!
Sex scene. With every color but vanilla attached.
So…
I decided to take on the task of punching out stories for myself. And set myself a threshold of 10,000 words at the least. For NtC.
There are lots of Peter Parker/ Jennifer Walters fanfics out there. None with exactly what I want though. Biased to myself?
Yes indeed.
For Catch & Release, my minimum is 5K.
No one out there is writing anything involving Guy and Dawn… which is a shame. I do think I am a lone minnow in a tank full of guppies.
It doesn’t mean we can’t get along, but we do stand out… especially if the only minnow.
For an explanation… those fish are bigger than guppies (might depend on species though). So, they’d stand out a lot.
Being so visible is not always a good thing.
For OA, my minimum is 4K. I’m sad… because the story stalled out, and that’s likely due to having it all prewritten. Or at least half of it.
I’m serious. I wrote that story in 2015… and was plucking parts off for posting on AO3 and Fanfiction.net starting in late 2020.
I feel ashamed about that really. I was stealing from the results of an extra 5 years of maturity.
I literally need to go back to basics and completely rewrite the story and its chapters.
Gonna do my best to keep the characters canon.
Might be fun though. I think some of the main chapters might remain… but as for the overarching theme of the story…
Well…
