Chapter 1 – [Insert Catchy Title Here]
By Juliette Lyst
As the sometimes-booed narrator of my own life, I did feel a twinge of pain today as I sat in front of two separate shredders. The task ahead was as clear as day, but something I still had to push through.
So… I remember noting that I was a published author. That’s very true. However, as of February 29th (or so?) next year (Maybe March??), my book will no longer be available on the Kindle Store. It’s been unpublished. I’m unable to delete it because it has an ISBN, so it’s formerly published and was in print nearly a decade ago.
I’ve been dancing around that… and the fact that I just shredded the only printed manuscript I had… along with the notebook that went along with it.
I don’t have the umm… the “teeth” to keep struggling to push out a reprint of a book that I have mixed feelings about.
I’ve been discussing revisions of my book since 2014.
I just… can’t anymore. There’s nothing at all wrong with that, but it really did hurt to shred those pages. I had all these notes written on the pages in red ink. Which is what I do when I’m very serious about something.
So long, farewell.
I’m going to work on things that are a lot less complicated. I can’t hold conversations without getting confused half the time, so I figure it would be a better idea to work on something that didn’t require as much thought.
For a few years now, I’ve tossed around the idea of being a children’s book author. And because I’m… as a relative called it… ‘destitute,’ I can’t afford an illustrator. So, I’ve been sitting here with my sketch pad.
And have now decided… while I’m sliding into middle age—that now… yes NOW—is the perfect time to learn how to properly draw animals.
How it’s supposed to go…
Step One: Learn how to draw a circle correctly. I keep having problems with that.
Step Two: Learn how to draw a nose correctly.
Step Three: Explore watercolors again and/or pastels.
How it will probably go.
Step One—Three: Same, yet forgotten
Step Four: Visit a park and take pictures.
Step Five: Start drawing leaves and trees.
Step Six: Write children’s story, first the main manuscript, then a “script” of everything, including objects and/or people.
Step Seven: Review prior steps and start working to draw animals.
We’ll see how it all goes.
And I have an appointment in the morning to see a doctor about my back. I hope it works… because I really need help.
