Risky Business

Daily writing prompt
When is the last time you took a risk? How did it work out?

What’s important to understand 1st… is what exactly is meant by a “risk.” I have engaged in many things that would seem nearly lethal.

Like the time I got a lighter and a can of Afrosheen, using them to make a blowtorch inside the house to kill a hornet.

Or the many times I’ve used a lighter to kill mosquitoes.

I’ve nodded off behind the wheel a few times, so I minimize my driving to when I don’t feel like I’m about to keel over.

I’ve also eaten my aunt’s cooking, which could definitely be seen as a risk. To explain, she made roasted goose… the meat was so dry that the dog nearly choked to death. She also gave her mother a pot roast that my grandmother nearly choked on. My aunt’s idea of cooking involves putting butter in everything.

Mistakenly began turning, then had to gun the engine of my 20+ year old vehicle because the car coming from the other direction suddenly floored it to try and hit me.

Or the time I was nearly run over by an SUV that sped up when I was crossing a crosswalk.

Are we talking about financial risks? Like the time I stupidly believed my ex (multiple times) when being asked for money. Or the times I loaned money to my family with promises of repayment.

Y’all were there when they paid me back.

Remember?

No?

That’s because it never happened.

Taking my mask off around my friends—only to scramble back into it when I hear someone choking-gasp-wheeze-coughing.

Sleeping without my CPAP on?

How about having my packages delivered to my house now?

Eating takeout in this world of people with poor hygiene.

No.

My biggest risk is this…

Sharing aspects of my life online with people I do not know. Posting anything of mine online. Putting my face online. Knowing that anyone who I know offline could stumble on my blog… and then there will likely be chaos.

How’d this risk go?

So far… okay.
