This Unfortunately Requires

Daily writing prompt
How do you want to retire?

Sadly, this requires something I don’t have anymore.

A career.

I had one at one point, then I got laid off, then I couldn’t find work. Then COVID. My dad had a near fatal car crash. I got work, then had to leave due to safety reasons. My mental health deteriorated further, which required medication to treat.

Then my health did a freakish tailspin.

Culminating in having my first stroke at the ripe old age of 37.

My memory is bad.

My sense of balance is bad.

My body is failing me.

My self-esteem is worse each year.

And… I’m starting to have indicators of something else wrong with me.

Retire. Would be nice to have that option.

I can lose myself writing and forget my problems for a very brief period.

My father finally listened to “Emerald & Crimson,” Chapter 1. Edge has this cool feature where it’ll read a webpage for you. So I had it read off AO3.

Then dad asked me if I had written that. He absorbed all of the story and had a lotta questions.
