Daily writing prompt
If you could make your pet understand one thing, what would it be?

Normally, I would state the command: “speak,” because I am working to train that to the youngest cat.

In consideration of the fact that he seems to be learning it, then that begs the question of what else.

Both of my cats understand: “No,” and “don’t” pretty well.

I would love for my older cat to understand just how sad I feel sometimes when I think about how frail she has become, how much I don’t want her to suffer and how amazing I think she is for still “somewhat” being able to outrun the younger cat.

She can’t properly jump anymore and sometimes I have to double check to make sure she’s breathing, which is distressing for me.

This is the 21 year old cat.

For the younger cat, I wish he could understand that I am his final destination and how intriguing I find him. His previous owners… in a roundabout way, explained that they didn’t have time for him now that they were back to work. They claimed, initially, that he had been peeing all over the house for 3 years. But I understood the real reason after reading their thoughts on him near the bottom of the page.

He truly was dumped because he no longer had a purpose for them.

I also want him to know that to this day, I still find his letterbox antics to be hilarious. Either he’s balancing on just his back legs or one leg… I have never seen a cat “not” squat to go.

Not sure how coherent this is.
