Keep It Close In Mind

It’s slow and so very slight, but I’m gradually building up some positive habits. Or at least trying to. Tomorrow, I’ll resume using my lists in earnest.

Tonight, I have so much to do… it’s maddening, but I know with the right amount of focus, I’ll be able to finish everything.

I recently purchased a book to help me learn to draw (again) and will pen in time in my schedule to do just that. It would be nice to finally learn how to shade… after what? 28 years.

I think it was 28 years ago that I found my mom’s She-Hulk comic books… and my desire to draw superheroes was born. I started off by trying to do a proper trace. On the She-Hulk of course.

I was heavily into watching all these different TV shows in the following years… ones about these strong, powerful women and the people they protected or worked alongside. Late 90s to early 2000s had that. Lots of it.

The TV shows would be seen as cheesy by today’s more gritty standards.

I remember when I heard about the idea of rebooting Xena: Warrior Princess… with the show portrayed like Game of Thrones. Xena was supposed to be very cold, calculating and what she was in the original series… but without any smiles, any laughter and probably lots of dirt.

The fanbase literally screeched that they liked the camp, did not want a super angry, super serious and super grisly rebooted TV series.

I want to cry too, because now that there’s a She-Hulk TV show, I’m reading reviews stating that they made the character a sex hungry idiot.

Me not impressed. At all.

They changed the backstory.

Again, not impressed. Jen’s original backstory was completely in line with her character.

I haven’t been so sad since I saw that Koriand’r was turned into this impersonal and very passionless woman who just uses people. They also changed her body a lot…

Like a lot a lot.

In the original comics with her, she was curvy and often smiling despite her terrible history. She also had that huge 80s style hair. Her curves were actually why she was a model back then too.

I’ll state this as well… I have no clue why comic writers will so radically change the appearances of these characters. And their behaviors. They were more like Marilyn Monroe, but were turned into extremely different looking people.

Though to be fair, I’m probably still mostly angry about the Teen Titans cartoons. Starfire did not drink mustard, nor was she so easily fooled.

The comic I have of Storm (an oldie) and even my memories of one of the more recent comics… Ororo’s personality was the same. Least as far as I recall. Her appearance changed only slightly. It’s different from the 80s, yes.

But everybody in the 80s comics were built different.

Storm seems mostly intact. Probably because the artists knew they’d be eviscerated by the fans if they warped her too much.

… I realize I spent 30 minutes looking up different comics that Starfire was in. I want to sa—Eh, probably shouldn’t.

If I do, I’ll be tempted to write a fanfic with her and Dick Grayson.

I don’t need to do that to myself.

I will not obsess about that Tamarean again. No no no!

Also… nothing will ever erase the memories I have of the priest at Koriand’r (Kory Anders) and Dick Grayson’s wedding being killed by an energy blast, Kory being trapped and then being impregnated by Raven.

Help me please.

Great, now I want to write a fanfic with Kory in it. -_-

BAH! BACK TO THE DRAWING BOARD!
