Pushing Buttons

I always aim to have something clever to say. Unfortunately, the thought never sticks inside my head long enough to make it to print. I worry if I’ll find myself recycling material or if I can keep up producing new stuff.

That is likely a fear that constantly lingers and churns inside the minds of writers everywhere.

Those of us that write merely for the entertainment of others all have to agree – having “no ideas” is a scary place to find ourselves in.

Fortunately, I’ve mostly found myself avoiding that particular literary death. The fear can be more prevalent when the material is completely original. While I still only have one published work to this day, I still worry that I’ll never have the idea for anything else.

It can be a pipe dream… to imagine a lifetime of penning stories all written within the same exact universe… potentially one of your own design. There are few authors that have done that. The majority twiddles their thumbs and hopes that the reading is clever enough, is fresh enough and palatable enough for the masses.

I can find amusement in actually knowing what really sells… and being unable to write it. There are few things that sell as well as this…

Then again, I have so much less pressure and stress because I do not engage in such writing.

I also don’t have that sickly and sticky feeling inside, the bolt of tension inside because of wanting to make sure that everything is worded and detailed right and that it reads back well.

Pfft. I leave that stressor for when I’m in the middle of revising chapters for Navigating the Curve.

I’ll note that I have recently located both my notebook and outline for the fiction. What’s interesting is that for the first time – I’m actually using a notebook instead of letting it collect space and/or dust.

I was just scratching my head over the title for Chapter 19 when I remembered that I have not yet started it. Or Chapter 20. Tonight, I’ll be starting the chapter up for 19… and then I’ll go over and revise the outline. One (or more) of the earlier chapters is being renamed along with new content.

I probably need a new outline for the “mainstream”ed chapters.

Is that a thing??

I love Celine Dion’s “Refuse To Dance”. Quite a few of the titles for my fictions come from either a song title or a lyric inside of a song. I think I used lyrics from one song to title three different chapters.

Now though, exercise… then scheduling!
