No one has ever asked me where I got the name for the title of my Peter Parker / Jennifer Walters fanfiction. It occurred to me that it’s probably something that not too many writers would discuss anyway.
Some of us plug random letters onto the page with both eyes closed – hoping for the best. Some of us use name randomizers and go with whichever one works best.
I’m a bit different. For names, I tend to use about 2-3 name randomizers, then 1 quarter flip if I’m picking between two names.
That’s only in reference to character names or locations though.
“Where the title came from” never comes up… because it’s rarely that important. I don’t want to say I’m so different and so not egocentric that I would use something as simple as this for a blog post.
In fact, there was a very old song I heard on the radio… What it’s called now, I have no idea. I listen to a lot of music from the era I was born in. I will probably figure out what song it was tomorrow.
Thing is… “Navigating the Curve” was in its original incarnation… a Thor / She-Hulk fic, based on one of the comics I’d read with them in it.
That idea… Yeah that one was scrapped.
But now I have NtC in its present form… I like it.
I like it a lot.
That’s it.
Man… it is going to drive me up the wall until I can figure out what that song was.
