This is an unusual update from me, but there’s a reason.
Hey there! Most of you might know me as Miss J. I’m Miss J (MissLyst), ReadMsLyst, TheReadingLyst and TheGamesLyst.
Others know me as Juliette Lyst. Now, that’s my penname. What’s significant about that?
On the front page of my blog, it reads: “Author, gamer, musician and all-around goofball.” If I were to list my interests in order of importance, it would go pretty much the same way. Let’s get reintroduced.
I am:
- A writer. I’m actually published under my real name. The book is currently due to go under heavy revision (before I attempt to advertise for it again). So, I’m a published author. I also write fanfiction, but I’ve been really reliably unreliable lately.
- A gamer. As TheGamesLyst, my YouTube page is about primarily playing in the Sims 4. Due to my gaming PC going down, I’m currently using my cameras and cellphone to film gaming content for my channel. The gaming PC was also what I was using to edit, so now I’m using my main business PC to edit until I can get the computer fixed. I don’t play Fortnight or COD, but I’m pretty sure Sims 4 and various mobile games makes me count as a gamer now. If I didn’t before.
- A musician. I’m a classically trained pianist and played percussion in concerts. Percussion is not just the drums, as I’ve been asked before. I’m trying to teach myself guitar, but it’s slow going. I have to work with my moods and energy level and both of those can fluctuate. I also sang on stage at one point. I’ve been labeled as a Second Soprano and Mezzo-Soprano… I suffer from horrible stage fright, and to my ears – I sound like a child singing… so I doubt I’ll return to publicly performing anytime soon. It’s just too nerve-wracking!
- An all-around goof ball. As ReadMsLyst or TheReadingLyst, I read labels and other things in humorous ways. I also dabble in a random slew of content for my YouTube page. My niche is primarily reading content in funny ways, but I put out different content at times. I also like joking around with my friends, but I can’t prepare jokes. It’s always spontaneous.
This is not an advertisement either, but pointing out that I am what would be called a content-creator. One thing that filming and producing videos for my channel has taught me is that a lot of work goes into producing content. I already knew that editing makes your writing pop, but never knew much about video and audio until this year.
Even my podcast requires effort to edit. My speech pattern varies.
I did not include that I’m an artist because my art sucks. I know a lot of work goes into producing a piece. Even my terrible sketches take 30 minutes or more to produce.
That said, I would like to ask those who steal content to please stop. Seriously… Stop!
SRSLY!
Even if you get a thrill out of people praising you for what you’ve done – just STOP!
I had to alert the author of one of my favorite comics to the fact that people were using her artwork to advertise for their site. Another friend of mine had a company steal parts of his video to advertise for their film.
Not cool.
So, if you’re new around here and want to make a splash in a big way…
Just start. Whether you make a big splash or a tiny one, just do it on your own merit.
That’s all.
Till then
~ Miss J
