The abrupt rise of social media.
Back in the late 90s-early 2000s, we had AIM, YIM, ICQ. I used Trillian, which combined all of them.
AOL~ dial-up noise!!
Some people I know still use AOL for their emails..
Sheesh!
Online chat groups were trendy. Nice for lonely people who had nothing else to do.
I was one of them so…
‘Course, as with all things, Yahoo!Chat was crawling with perverts too.
We went from flat, text-based communication systems to having social media services like MySpace, Facebook and YouTube.
Let’s not get started on all of the public blogging sites.
Lots of people started using mobile phones too. Me, I used payphones for years until I was out of high school. I carried around refillable phone card.
Went from cellphones in high school, to middle school… to seeing toddlers literally glued to a tablet to keep them occupied.
Instead of yunno…
Going outside.
