Let The Fingers Do The Walking … On The Keyboard

Writing, I think?

Reed shook his head.

“R—R—Reed… Reed,” Jennifer struggled. “I didn’t… I didn’t mean that—” She watched as Reed waved a hand. “That… R—Reed…” Her breathing was uneven, and she was beginning to sweat.

“It’s fine. This is a routine mission, but we’ll do our best. Mary Jane will keep you company.”

The redhead peeked around the corner of the door—almost as if she’d been summoned.

“Reed, I didn’t… W—We aren’t…”

But… the scientist was already walking to the elevators, showing he considered the matter closed.

For now.

Mary Jane ambled over to Jennifer, alarmed at the green woman’s appearance. “Jennifer?”

The green woman’s eyes were unusually wide, terror easily seen in them. She was grasping her tank top with her right hand. “I don’t know. I don’t know. I don’t know…” she kept repeating herself.

“What don’t you know?” MJ asked.

Jaw quivering, Jennifer’s brows slammed together and she looked away, tears filling her eyes. The hand holding on to her shirt trembled.

“I… I don’t know…” Her lips pulled into a thin line. “I don’t know how I feel.”

This is a snippet from my newest short, which I am in the process of editing.

    1. I had to hold back from writing “on the typewriter,” because I grew up using one. I never get a delivery of the Yellow pages anymore. At least I don’t think so. Not unless a neighbor has stolen them. Hmm… that is a gap in my memory that I’ll have to find something to fill.

I stopped getting the newspaper years ago. Still get Costco magazine though.
