Bent But Never Broken

Today, I’m dealing with the expected fallout from overworking the tendons in my right hand. Even though I use an ergonomic keyboard, to be able to type this post, I had to turn the keyboard forward and have it at a 45 degree angle.

When I say I’m in pain, I am.

It’s not the first time that I’ve had a flare up like this. Thankfully for now it’s just on one side. Unfortunately, I am starting to feel tension between my pointer finger and thumb on the left side. I know very well what that means.

I plan on slowing down with physically manipulating anything for writing – which I already did. With this keyboard, I have no problem using the SHIFT or SPACEBAR on either side.

Oh yeah! I have two spacebars. It drives one of my friends nuts when I talk about it. I have two thumbs as well, but whatever…

Elevating my wrists also helps. It’s a throwback to when I was behind a piano and playing.

Did you know how frustrating it can be playing the snare and piano at the same time? Piano requires you to move your arms, but not your wrists. And playing snare for some reason requires you to move your wrists but not the arms too much.

We’re talking about a single snare drum here – not a drumset.

In the past, I practiced three hours a day for each instrument.

Ooh! My right hand suddenly had all those ‘crackly’ bubbles in it. Do I crack my hands? Yes, I do. And it feels gooood every single time I do it. Some of the ache eased up a bit.

Just a smidgen.

Was I going to let a potential injury prevent me from writing my daily blog post?

Absolutely not!

If my hands couldn’t, I can always use “Windows Speech Recognition”. It’s a free app available on Windows machines. At least… I think so. I shouldn’t be the only person with a laptop that will take diction from you.

What is behind the current burn is a bonus scene that I’m trying to get ready for the NtC near the end. I wanted to get it meaty enough so it would be ready. However, I failed to recognize that I also had a secondary writing assignment this week and had to write down several things by hand.

I also forgot that what I should have been doing was working on chapter 14 instead of lollygagging.

And I also have to cook and do laundry tonight.

Bah!

Till Then!
